Top 5 Healthy Snacks for Happy Nubians

Our Nubian Herd’s Favorite Summer Treats

Summer on the farm means sun, smiles, and treat time for our beloved Nubian goats! These clever, curious, and charming goats have quite the sweet tooth—and we love spoiling them with seasonal goodies. Here is our list of the top 5 summertime treats we spoil our girls with.

Juicy, Sweet, and Totally Goat-Approved Summer Snacks

#1 - Strawberry Tops: Tiny Treats, Big Nutrition

Strawberries aren’t just for humans—our Nubians adore the leafy tops just as much as the berries! They munch happily on these little green delights, and if you have a few that are a little mushy, goats don't seem to mind if they are a little past their peak. Just be sure to never feed a goat moldy fruit!

#2 - Watermelon: Delicious Summer Hydration

Nothing says summer like juicy watermelon! Our goats go wild for the rind and the flesh alike. Not only is it a tasty treat, but it’s also a hydrating snack to keep them cool on hot days.

Serving Idea: Slice into chunks or small wedges. Avoid giving too much at once—balance is key!

#3 - Bananas: Goats Go Bananas for Bananas

Bananas are a fun treat that our Nubians recognize instantly. They’ll gobble down the fruit and peel quicker than you can say b-a-n-a-n-a. Cut into small pieces to avoid choking, and remove the peel if feeding larger quantities.

Pro Tip: Save your daily peels from your smoothies, banana bread, etc for your does, they will thank you!

#4 - Apples: A Classic Crunchy Snack

Apples are a timeless favorite. Sweet, crunchy, and healthy, they keep our goats happy and active. Our Nubians love the occasional apple slice as a midday treat. We have apple trees and so do our friends, so late summer and early fall these girls get spoiled.

Serving Tip: Remove seeds before feeding, and slice for little goat mouths.

#5 - Grapes: Bundles of Sweet Joy

Grapes are a favorite little snack for our Nubian goats—they’re small, sweet, and perfect for little goat mouths. Whether red, green, or black, our goats will happily chase them down one by one.

Newbie Tip: Always cut grapes in half for kids or smaller goats to prevent choking. Wash thoroughly and serve in moderation—too many treats can upset their tummies!

Treat Time Tips for Goat Owners

  • Moderation is key: Goats thrive on hay and pasture; treats should complement their diet.

  • Rotate treats: Keep things exciting—Nubians love variety!

  • Safety first: Avoid seeds and pits, and wash all produce.

Watching our Nubian herd enjoy these summer treats is one of our favorite farm moments. From strawberry tops to watermelon chunks, every snack is a celebration of summer sunshine, fresh fruit, and happy goats.
